Tect Geological Consulting was founded by Dr Ian Basson in 2000. Since then Tect has serviced in excess of 75 clients throughout Africa and offshore
Tect’s main focus is the application of structural geology and mineralogy to the understanding of mineral deposits, either in mining or exploration projects. The company emphasizes problem-solving, lateral thinking, and the application of recent models and techniques in the fields of structural interpretation and economic geology

Key Expertise:
- Mapping of complex structural environments, including high-grade metamorphic terranes and terranes with a significant brittle-ductile or brittle overprint
- Structural and lithological mapping of open-cast mines
- Liaison with geotechnical engineers and mining personnel in pit slope design and mine planning
- 3D modeling of complex geology
- Lithological and structural interpretation of geophysical and LandSat/ASTER data sets
- Forward structural modeling in greenfields or brownfields exploration projects, using stress mapping/modeling where required
Associate Consultant
Qualification: M.Sc. Mining Geology, Camborne School of Mines (UK)
Key Expertise:
- Feasibility studies for chrome and PGM resources
- Due diligence studies of various PGM projects, including compiling and auditing resource estimates
- Target generation for chrome and gold in Southern Africa and the development of PGM, chrome and gold resource models
- Competent person for PGM, chrome and gold resource estimation and resource estimate audits
- Management of PGM, chrome and vanadium exploration programs
- Management of all service department functions of a new PGM mining project (Booysendal)
- Advising on ground water and rock consolidation strategies
Associate Consultant
Qualification: Ph.D. Monash University (Australia)
Key Expertise:
- More than 16 years of mapping and research in a wide variety of geological terrains in Africa, Europe and Australia, generating plans for academia, industry and governmental organizations
- Focus on isotopic and petrological studies and integration of these with structural geology and tectonics
- Geological research in the fields of acid intrusives, thermal metamorphism, layered ultramafics, fluid migration, applied mineralogy and structural geology

Qualification: Ph.D. University of Natal (Durban)
Key Expertise:
- Structural mapping of the Bushveld Complex and its metamorphic aureole, leading onto numerical modeling and simulations of Bushveld Complex intrusion and deformation mechanisms
- Bushveld Complex aureole microtextures and the implications for new platinum exploration targets in structurally complex domains
- Shear zone hosted mineralisation of the Pongola Supergroup
Consultant
Qualification: B.Sc. (Honours) Economic and Applied Geology, University of Stellenbosch

- 3D modelling of deposits (GEMCOM and MicroMine)
- Mineralization in high-grade metamorphic terrains
- Base metal sulphide mineralization
Tect’s Standards
While conforming to industry standards in terms of applicable terminology and techniques, Tect provides individual and specialized services to both large and small companies. Our approach is not one of “rubber-stamping” or simply reworking existing data; rather the company seeks to add real, quantifiable value to its client’s mining or exploration ventures. This approach includes a no-charge, follow-up policy – clients are entitled to contact the company for additional information or to discuss new ideas that have resulted from the consulting and reporting phases. Partly as a consequence of this approach and Tect’s 100% safety record, the majority of Tect’s clients have assigned the company “preferred supplier” status for structural-economic geology work.
Tect is the preferred provider of geophysical data interpretation services for New Resolution Geophysics and the recommended provider of geophysical data interpretation services for Aeroquest’s African operations.
